Emergent Scientist is now indexed in Scopus

15th May 2025, Paris, France. EDP Sciences is delighted to announce that Emergent Scientist has been accepted for indexing in Scopus, one of the world’s leading abstract and citation databases for peer-reviewed literature.

Emergent Scientist is a fully open access, international scientific journal designed to offer students their first experience of scientific publishing. It provides a unique platform for students to engage with the scientific process, learn about peer review, and publish research that is pedagogically and scientifically sound, even if it does not lead to novel results.

In its evaluation, the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB) praised the clarity and quality of the journal’s articles, its alignment with stated aims, and its value to an international readership. The journal was also recognised for addressing a subject area not adequately covered by existing titles.

Launched in 2016 by the French Physical Society (SFP), Emergent Scientist was inspired by the work of participants in the International Physicists’ Tournament. It has since evolved to welcome contributions from students in physics, mathematics, and chemistry, whether developed as part of a university project, personal initiative, or academic competition.

Editor-in-Chief Daniel Suchet welcomed the news, commenting: “Scopus indexing is a major milestone for Emergent Scientist, and a strong signal of recognition for the educational and scientific value of our journal. We hope it will encourage even more students to engage with research and the scientific method in a meaningful way.”

Xilin Huang, Publishing Editor at EDP Sciences, added: “The inclusion in Scopus reflects the hard work of our editors and reviewers, and the originality of the journal’s mission. It is exciting to see a journal dedicated to early-career authors gain this visibility on a global scale.”

Articles published in Emergent Scientist place strong emphasis on clear reasoning, transparency, and the scientific method. Each submission undergoes peer review and is accompanied by the original manuscript version alongside the final, proofread publication. The journal also encourages students to report unsuccessful approaches, fostering a culture of openness and critical reflection.
